TEMPE, Ariz. – For the second season in a row, the NC State women's tennis team is set to play host as a site for the 2021 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The event is set for Jan. 22-25, and Raleigh will be one of seven host sites for the weekend.
No. 7 NC State, the top seed in its region, will welcome No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 18 Central Florida and No. 32 Northwestern to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
This marks the fifth consecutive season that the Pack will compete in the event, which serves as regional action for the 2021 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The winner of each regional will advance to the eight-team national tournament which is set to be played Feb. 5-7 at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University.
NC State has reached the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in each of the last two seasons. In 2019, the squad defeated Mississippi State and Florida at Kick-Off Weekend in Gainesville, Fla. In 2020, the Pack hosted the regional weekend for the first time in program history and once again advanced after wins over Rice and Florida.
Despite the 2020 dual match season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NC State enjoyed its fair share of success on the court last season. The Pack was off to its best start in program history for the second year in a row with an 18-3 record. Five of the squad's victories were over top-25 opponents, including a historic upset over No. 3 Georgia. NC State was ranked in the top 10 for the entirety of the 2020 campaign and soared as high as a program-best No. 3.
