RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's golf head coach Press McPhaul announced Friday that Class of 2021 prospects Jake Herring and Jake Wiktor have all signed National Letters of Intent to join the Wolfpack men's golf program.
"Jake Herring and Jake Wiktor are great additions to our program," said McPhaul. "They have so many characteristics we look for at NC State. They are talented, driven and focused. They have shot very low scores in competition on their way to tournament victories. They are excellent students and young men of character. We are grateful to have them join our program at NC State. We take a step forward by adding two young men like this to our program."
Jake Herring
Herring, a Wilson, N.C., native committed to NC State as a sophomore at Fike High School. The long-time Wolfpack commit has had a strong 2020 season. In June, he shared medalist honors in stroke play competition of the North Carolina Junior Boys' Championship before advancing to the quarterfinals during match play. He won the 10th Annual ACC Southeastern Fall Classic in September with back-to-back rounds of 64 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. Herring continued his strong play with another medalist finish, this time at the Triad Bill Harvey Memorial Junior in October.
In the North Carolina men's amateur this summer, Herring finished in a tie for 28th place.
At Fike High School, Herring has been inducted into the Beta Club, as well as the National Honors Society.
Jake Wiktor
Wiktor, a River Forest, Ill., native has signed to join the NC State men's golf team. Like Herring, Wiktor has had a strong 2020 season. He won the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Stan Utley at Club of Old Hawthorn with scores of 72 and 63. Wiktor showed resilience at the Chick Evans Junior Amateur, rallying to make match play and then in the first round of match play, was four down with five holes to play, but rallied to force a playoff and won on the fourth playoff hole. Over the last two summers on the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour, Wiktor has appeared in 11 events and has finished in the top-10 in seven events, in the top-five in five events, has two runner-up finishes and one medalist.
In 2019, Wiktor won his high school's 2A Regional Tournament with a 67 and shot the second-lowest score in Fenwick High School history.
At Fenwick, Wiktor has been named to First Honor Roll his first six semesters of high school and has been inducted into the National Honors Society. He has been named to the AJGA Academic All-America Team and was nominated by the Chicago Catholic League coaches to be the co-recipient for the Lawless Player of the Year award.
