Annual award honors the top center in women’s NCAA Division I basketball
Fan Voting Begins Nov. 13
Springfield, Mass. – NC State women's basketball junior Elissa Cunane has been named one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2021 Lisa Leslie Award, an annual honor that recognizes the top center in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
Wolfpack fans are encouraged to participate in this year's Fan Voting during each of the three rounds. In early February, the watch list will be narrowed to just 10 players. In early March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
An AP and USBWA Third Team All-American during the 2019-20 campaign, Cunane was one of five finalists for the Lisa Leslie Award last season and was also named to the 2020 John R. Wooden Award National Ballot. The Summerfield, N.C., native was a Consensus First Team All-ACC honoree in 2020 after leading the league in rebounding (9.6) and also being the only player in the conference to rank in the top six in the league scoring (16.4) and field-goal percentage (.547). She also earned a spot on the 2020 ACC All-Tournament Team after averaging 15 points (.500 shooting) in three games to help lead NC State to its first conference tournament title since 1991.
Cunane has posted 17 career double-doubles and is operating at a 54.8 percent (336-of-613) success rate from the field on her career. During the 2019-20 season, she scored 20+ points in a total of 10 outings and hit double figures in all but five games. Halfway through her NC State career, Cunane owns 988 points and 521 rebounds to her name.
The winner of this season's Lisa Leslie Award will be presented April 9, 2021 alongside the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. For more information on the award and to vote, visit HoopHallAwards.com.
