Rifle Opens 2020-21 Season at Navy

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State Rifle team opens up its 2020 schedule this weekend, with a face off against GARC opponent Navy in Annapolis, Md. Set to compete Saturday, Oct. 3 the Wolfpack will look to open its 2020-21 season with a strong start, building off a historic 2019-20 season.
Led by third-year head coach, Emily Holsopple, the Wolfpack return several standouts from a last season. Makenzie Sheffield had a standout freshman season, being one of two first-year shooters selected as an individual for the NCAA Championships.
NC State returns a total of five shooters from last season and will look to its talented group of newcomers – Lauren Crossley, Roman Karadsheh, Ben Salas, Travis Stockton and Katie Torrence to further bolster the Wolfpack's lineup.
Navy opened its season last weekend with a 4658 score to beat VMI. Michael Zanti tied for second in school history with a 596 in rifle on his way to an 1180 aggregate score. The Midshipmen return four of its five starters from last season.
In 2019-20, NC State set a new standard for the rifle program, reaching a school-best No. 7 national ranking and recording the second-highest score in program history.
Following this weekend's opener, the Pack will make its 2020-21 debut in Reynolds Coliseum with a matchup against North Georgia on Oct. 11. No fan attendance will be allowed.
