Pack Comes Home with Second Straight Road Win

NC State jumped out to 24-0 lead, sealed game with INT return for a TD in fourth

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 24-0 lead before the Cavs (1-2) got on the scoreboard.

QB Devin Leary had a pair of first quarter TD pass, first 5 yards to Trent Pennix and then 32 yards to Cary Angeline for the first two touchdowns of the day.

PK Christopher Dunn kicked a 36-yard field goal early in the second half, followed by a 35-yard Zonovan Knight TD run.
Â
For the second straight week, the Pack also made a key goal-line stand, denying both a third and a fourth down UVA runs from the one-yard line.

The Cavs did get on the scoreboard late in the second quarter, scoring a TD to make the score 24-7 at the half.

Virginia utilized a fake punt and took it down the field for the lone score of the third quarter, as the Pack held a 24-14 lead to start the fourth quarter.

The Wolfpack extended its lead when DT Alim McNeill not only picked off his first career pass, but scored his first career TD as he returned it 18 yards for the defensive score.

The Cavs added their third TD pass of the game to bring the score within 31-21 with 6:08.

NC State iced the game late in the fourth quarter, as Zonovan Knight scored from two yards out for the final score of the game.

WOLFPACK SPOTLIGHT DRIVE

After R-Fr. Shyheim Battle's first career pick gave the Pack the ball at the 50-yard line, NC State went six plays in 2:38 of the first score of the game – Leary to Pennix from 5-yards out. Leary was 3-of-3 on the drive for 36 yards. Today was the first game of the season Pennix received snaps on offense, he had previously only played special teams.

NOTABLES
• NC State had two freshmen that recorded an interception in the same game for the first time since Josh Jones & Pharoah McKever did so as freshmen at Syracuse in 2014.

• As a team, toady was the first time since last season's Ball State game the Pack had more then one INT, and today's game was the first since the Sun Bowl in 2018 against Arizona State that the Pack had three in a game.

• The Wolfpack defense cause three turnovers on the game (2 INTs and 1 fumble). It is the first time the Pack forced at least three TOs in a game since the East Carolina contest in 2018 – a span of 18 games.

The Pack will return to Carter-Finley Stadium next weekend, as the Pack will host Duke at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on RSN.
