KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – NC State closed out competition at the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Sunday. The women's and men's platform events were highlighted by Madeline Kline's fourth-place finish, thanks to a season-best 248.05 performance. The score marked her third Zones cut in her third platform outing of the season.
"Today was not the best day, but it most certainly was not the worst day," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "Our freshmen continue to impress and step up when they need to. Unfortunately, we are still trying to figure out how to control the adrenaline and the nerves to go with competing. I was very impressed with Patrick knocking on the top-five finish, and we are far from seeing the best of him. I'm very excited to see what he does in the future.
"Madeline Kline did an amazing job by representing the Pack in every possible opportunity that she was presented. When she had to compete four times and still was able to finish in fourth place against a very stacked field, it spoke volumes of her work ethic, her character and her continued hunt for excellence. Now we focus on the next few weeks and build up to the postseason."
Katelyn Cook also competed for the Pack women on platform and finished with a 136.60.
On the men's side, Patrick O'Brien closed out his weekend on platform. O'Brien earned a top-15 finish with a 251.55. Teammate Bayne Bennett recorded a 197.85.
The NC State swimmers and divers are back in action next weekend as the Pack makes the short trek to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. for a dual meet with UNC. The squad returns home to the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center Saturday, Jan. 18 as it hosts in final home meet against Duke. Diving begins at 10 a.m., and swimming begins at 11 a.m.
