Both Divers Secured Top-Seven Finishes in the Finals
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – NC State divers competed in the second day of competition at the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by Madeline Kline (three-meter) and James Brady (one-meter) advancing to the finals in their respective events.
In the finals, Kline and Brady both secured top-seven finishes. Kline built off her career-best performance on the three-meter in the prelims, besting it with a score of 293.05. That mark registered as her second Zones cut of the day, and she placed sixth overall in the finals. Brady posted a 301.95 in the finals, also a Zones mark, to take home seventh place for the Pack.
"What an incredibly exciting and fun day! Today was another day of new dives and new strategies to get our team to where they need to be," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "Olivia Ball, our graduate assistant, and I spoke at length about putting our athletes' minds in the right spot leading up to today. I was very impressed and proud of how they responded to our challenge and how they handled their new dives. With James making the final and setting himself up for the postseason, it shows that we are in the right place at the right time moving forward. It was a very exciting afternoon, followed by Madeline qualifying to her first three-meter final in college and moved up, I believe, four spots to achieve two personal bests on three-meter."
On the one-meter board, James Brady found his way to the finals after a 312.25 performance in the prelims. Teammate Patrick O'Brien recorded a top-22 finish, posting a 252.90.
Kline made it to her second event final in as many days on Saturday with a then-career-best 287.20 on the three-meter board, which qualified her for the finals.
Katelyn Cook made her 2020 debut and recorded a score of 213.60 in three-meter competition.
NC State's divers are set to conclude action at the Tennessee Diving Invitational Sunday morning with men's and women's platform competition.
