KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – NC State's divers returned to the boards and opened the new year at the Tennessee Diving Invitational inside the Jones Aquatic Center on Friday. The Pack was led by Madeline Kline, who advanced to the finals and secured a top-eight finish on the one-meter board.
Kline was one of 12 competitors that advanced to the one-meter final on Friday with her third one-meter Zone mark of the season, posting a 269.15. In the finals Kline earned a top-10 finish, placing eighth (247.00).
Teammate Taylor Bennett also competed on the women's one-meter board, concluding her day in the top 24 with a score of 231.40.
"Today was a very interesting day for the divers," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "We came to this meet with the plan of experimenting with some new dives and to set us up for the postseason. Unfortunately, some of them went our way, and some of them failed miserably. I am disappointed with a couple of things, but there are some very good highlights that we need to focus on moving forward.
"I could not be prouder of Madeline and Taylor for duking it out in the prelim, and I look forward to see what Taylor brings in the future. Madeline was in excellent form considering how tired and beat up she was from training. I am looking forward to see what the morning brings."
On the men's side, the Pack was represented by Bayne Bennett (239.90) and Patrick O'Brien (206.45) on the three-meter board, finishing in 25th place and 30th place, respectively.
NC State's divers are set to continue action at the Tennessee Diving Invitational Saturday morning, with the women competing on the three-meter board and the men competing on the one-meter board.
