TEMPE, ARIZ. - The NC State men's tennis team (6-0) moved up three spots in this week's Oracle/ITA Rankings to No. 14, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday. The ranking bests the Wolfpack's previous program high of No. 16, achieved during the 2018 dual match season.
The change in rankings comes after a perfect 2-0 weekend at the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend as the team took down Utah State and then-No. 23 Virginia to lock down a trip to the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship.
Senior Alexis Galarneau received multiple honors after going 2-0 in singles competition as well as 2-0 in doubles competition at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. His win over Carl Soderlund, who was ranked No. 1 in the Preseason Oracle/ITA rankings, sealed NC State's first win over Virginia since 1999.
The Laval, Canada Native was named UTR/ITA Division I Men's Player of the Week as well as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week. Galarneau, along with junior Robert Turzak, was named ACC Doubles Team of the Week.
The Wolfpack visits Penn Saturday, Feb. 1 at 12:30 p.m. before a trip to Princeton for a 2 p.m. matchup Sunday, Feb. 2.
