BALTIMORE – Recent graduate Tziarra King made history on Thursday, as she became the first player in program history and the Tim Santoro era to be drafted by the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).
She was selected as the eighth overall pick to Utah Royals FC.
King was a member of the class that was a catalyst for the Wolfpack's return to national prominence. Along with numerous other program records over the last four seasons, NC State has advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament every year (2016-19), including three Sweet Sixteen appearances.
The program has also finished the season nationally ranked in each of the past four years.
King inked her name in the Wolfpack record books, as she finished third all-time in career starts (88), goals (48) and points (115) and earned a combined 31 conference, regional and national awards throughout her time with the Red and White.
The NWSL was established in 2012 and is a successor to the Women's Professional Soccer league and Women's United Soccer Association.
Lindsay Vera and Jessica O'Rourke were selected in the 2009 WPS Draft, while Charmaine Hooper, Linda Kurtyka, Mary Pitera, Thori Staples Bryan and Kim Yankowski were all selected in the inaugural WUSA Draft in 2000.
