9/17/2019 9:06:00 AM | Men's Tennis
RALEIGH, N.C. – Head coach Kyle Spencer announced the 2019 fall schedule for the NC State men's tennis team on Tuesday. The Wolfpack is set to play in various collegiate and professional tournaments throughout the fall semester before beginning its dual season in January.
After having Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai competing at the Atlantic Tire Championships ATP Challenger event last week, NC State will kick off its full slate of fall play this coming weekend. The Pack will have players back in action at the Cary Tennis Park for the Duke Bonk Invitational Sept. 20-22 and will also compete at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sept. 20-23.
During the month of October, NC State's players will have multiple chances to qualify for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
The ITA All-American Championships will run Oct. 5-13 in Tulsa, Okla., beginning with pre-qualifying rounds Oct. 5-6. After additional qualifying rounds Oct. 7-8, the main draw will follow from Oct. 9-13.
Seven members of the Wolfpack roster were selected to compete at the All-American Championships, highlighted by senior Alexis Galarneau who earned a spot in the singles main draw. Babelis, Barkai, Robin Catry, Rafa Izquierdo Luque and Martins Rocens will all begin that tournament in the pre-qualifying rounds of singles. In addition, Galarneau and Babelis will compete in the qualifying doubles draw that week.
NC State will then return to the Cary Tennis Park the following weekend for the ITA Carolina Regional Championships Oct. 18-22.
Both of those October tournaments serve as pathways for players to automatically qualify for the National Fall Championships Nov. 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.
Players will be in action at the Minnesota Dynamic Duo Tournament and the Wake Forest Invitational the weekend of Nov. 8-10 to close out the Pack's fall slate.
Throughout the fall season, the Wolfpack will also have several players competing at various ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Tour events. The matches will continue to provide NC State's squad members the opportunity to earn ATP points and focus on their development for professional tennis. Those tournaments are listed on the full fall schedule page.
