MINNEAPOLIS – Despite outshooting the Golden Gophers 13-8 and putting eight shots on goal, NC State women's soccer suffered a 1-0 loss against Minnesota on the road on Thursday evening at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Wolfpack moves to 3-3-0 on the year while the Gophers captured their first win of the season and improve to 1-4-2.
In a scoreless first half, Tziarra King tried to put her team on the board as she took all five of the Pack's shots and put three on goal.
After a back-and-forth start to the second half, the Gophers broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Athena Kuehn headed in a goal off a corner kick.
The Pack rattled off five shots after the Minnesota goal, then Jameese Joseph managed to find the back of the net from close range in the 76th minute for what would have been the equalizer, but was called offside.
NC State returns to action Sunday when it faces Furman in a 1 p.m. matchup at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. The contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network, its first of four matches this year on the network.
