
Evans Named Wolfpack Classic Co-MVP

Kaylee Frazier and Jessica Kemp join Evans on All-Tournament Team
RALEIGH, N.C. – Following a pair of double-digit kill performances, Melissa Evans was named Co-MVP of the Wolfpack Classic this weekend. NC State's Kaylee Frazier and Jessica Kemp also represented the Wolfpack on the All-Tournament Team.
Evans led the team in its pair of victories Friday over Austin Peay and Kansas State with 32 kills, averaging 4.57 kills per set. Her 19 kills against Kansas State were just one shy of her career high. The junior opened the day hitting .364 with 14 kills and four blocks against Austin Peay before helping the Wolfpack defeat Kansas State in just the second meeting in program history.
Frazier made her debut at the libero position for the Wolfpack, holding down the back row with a total of 40 digs and averaging 5.7 digs per set. Frazier recorded a career-high 19 against Kansas State in addition to six assists. Kemp hit .540 in the tournament with 15 kills in two matches and just one hitting error. She also had a career-best two service aces which helped NC State total 11 against Kansas State.
Evans shares the Co-MVP title with Maryland's Erika Pritchard who also led her team to a 2-0 record on the weekend. Pritchard recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Austin Peay and Kansas State, including 25 kills against the Wildcats.
The Wolfpack's victories over Austin Peay and Kansas State give them a 2-0 record at home to open the season for the first time since 2009. NC State continues its season next weekend, Sept. 5-7, at the VCU Invitational in Richmond, Va. where the team will face VCU, UC Santa Barbara and Alabama. The Wolfpack return home Sept. 10 against in-state opponent East Carolina.
