Redshirt senior goalkeeper Vincent Durand saves penalty in 102nd minute
September 1, 2019
RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team (1-1-0) endured a 1-0 defeat to visiting St. John's (2-0-0) Sunday evening in a double overtime thriller at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Wolfpack defender Jamie Smith came inches from scoring the decisive goal in the 98th minute with a free kick that was deflected just enough by goalkeeper Luka Gavran to ping off the crossbar and back into play. Just a few minutes later, redshirt senior goalkeeper Vincent Durand saved a penalty in the 102nd minute to keep the match level at 0-0 in the second overtime period.
St. John's was able to come away with the victory when Tani Oluwaseyi found the ball at his feet from a deflected Skage Simonsen pass in the 107th minute. Oluwaseyi took advantage of his opportunity, just beating an outstretched Durand to the far post to score the winning goal.
