RALEIGH – Having guided the team to consecutive appearances in the NCAA Championships during his first two seasons in Raleigh, NC State men's soccer head coach George Kiefer and his staff of associate head coach Jeff Negalha, assistant coaches Kyle Nicholls and Lucas Champenois, and director of soccer operations Lindsey Krakower have put together another very strong recruiting class. With this week's addition of Spanish defender Pablo Pedregosa, the Wolfpack's 2019 signing class is complete.
Pedregosa joins the Wolfpack from C.D. Castellón in Spain, where he is a defender.
"When the most recent recruiting rankings came out, we mentioned that our class wasn't quite finished," Kiefer said. "A lot of people have been working hard at getting Pablo on board, so we're very thankful that he's joining us."
As of the most recent July rankings, compiled before NC State added Pedregosa to its roster, the Wolfpack's 2019 recruiting class is ranked sixth nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The current class includes signed commitments from the following players:
Pablo Pedregosa, D (C.D. Castellón)
Kendall Edwards, D (Atlanta United – No. 40 in the 2019 Boys IMG Academy Top 150 rankings)
Tonny Temple, F (Philadelphia Union – No. 51)
Win Ellis, GK (Colorado Rapids – No. 116)
Sheldon China, F (NCFC Youth – No. 133)
David Merola, GK (NCFC Youth)
Transfers
George Asomani, M (Monroe College)
Jamie Smith, D (Limestone College)
"The class is strong, but you could say I'm even more excited about the returning guys," Kiefer added. "I'm also looking forward to seeing how these new guys adjust."
NC State opens the 2019 season with a road exhibition at Atlantic Coast Conference foe North Carolina on August 18. The Wolfpack begins play in Raleigh with a free exhibition against VCU on Aug. 24 and officially opens the regular season at Dail Soccer Stadium on Aug. 30 against Loyola.
