Smith-Williams Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

RALEIGH, N.C. - Defensive end James Smith-Williams has been named to the watch list for the 2019 Wuerffel Trophy, presented by Chick-fil-A Foundation®. Known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Smith-Williams, a postgraduate who is spending the summer working for IBM for the second year, has been involved in a plethora of community service initiatives during his Wolfpack career. In addition to visiting numerous schools, he recently organized and implemented a donation drive to benefit victims of interpersonal violence.Â

The 2018 Academic All-ACC performer started all 12 games he played in last season, tallying a team-best 9.5 tackles for loss and six sacks.
