DALLAS, Texas -- NC State senior defensive lineman Larrell Murchison has been named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, which is given annually to the nation's top interior lineman. One of college football's most prestigious awards, the Outland has been presented since 1946.
Â
Murchison started every game in 2018 – his first year of competition with the Wolfpack. He earned the team's Cary Brewbaker Award, given to the top defensive lineman, as well as the Alpha Wolf Rising Award, which honors the squad's most improved player.
Â
Â
The Elizabethtown native, who started his career at Louisburg College, ranked second on the team in sacks last season and had his top performance in the win over Virginia, when he tallied four tackles for loss and three sacks.
Â
This is the second year of a partnership with the NFID to present the Outland Trophy as part of a public awareness campaign focused on the importance of influenza (flu) prevention during the 2019-20 flu season. The award honoring the top interior lineman in college football will continue to be selected by the FWAA membership and has been rebranded as the Outland Trophy presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases with a social media hashtag of #FightFlu.
