Hansson Makes Finals Appearance on Day One at World Championships

GWANGJU, South Korea – NC State's swimmers kicked off action in the pool at the 18th FINA World Championships, highlighted by rising sophomore Sophie Hansson competing in the finals of the women's 4x100-meter freestyle relay on Sunday.
Representing her native country, Hansson anchored Sweden's relay squad with a 55.89 split. Sweden's 3:36.33 time was good for sixth place in the first relay finals of the international meet.
Wolfpack alumnus Anton Ipsen was the first member of the Wolfpack to compete in an individual event in the pool. Ipsen posted an impressive 3:48.50 in the 400-meter freestyle heats to finish 12th in the event.
Nyls Korstanje and Andreas Vazaios both saw action in the heats of the men's 4x100-meter freestyle relay on day one of swimming competition at the World Championships. Vazaios led off with a 49.22 split as Greece placed 10th overall in 3:14.44. Korstanje's 49.06 split helped Netherlands to finish 16th overall.
The next session of heats is set for a 9 p.m. ET start on Sunday evening. The Pack will see a pair of swimmers compete in Sunday's preliminary heats as Hansson swims the 100-meter breaststroke (heat five) and Tamila Holub races in the 1,500-meter freestyle (heat two).
