RALEIGH – Tatyana Forbes, NFCA All-Region honoree and a member of the Mexican National Team, is the latest addition to the Wolfpack Softball roster as announced by head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift.
Having previously played at Coastal Carolina and Florida International, Forbes joins the Wolfpack with one remaining season of eligibility.
"Tatyana is coming to State with significant playing experience and an already decorated collegiate career," said Patrick-Swift. "Through her experiences, Tatyana already plays the game with a heightened confidence, and a 'be the best' mindset that will continue to raise the bar here on a daily basis. She can bunt for hits, slap and hit for power, as she really is a true triple threat. Defensively, she has good speed and a good first step jump that can help her cover a lot of ground in the outfield."
Forbes has been a member of Team Mexico since 2017, where she has helped boost the team to a No. 5 world ranking as Mexico looks to qualify a softball team to the Olympic Games for the first time. She recently concluded action with Team Mexico at the USA Softball International Cup, where she hit .250 and tallied six hits with five runs scored across nine games. She also played with Mexico at the 2018 World Championships, starting all eight games in left field.
Forbes opened her collegiate career at Coastal Carolina where she made an immediate impact, ranking fifth nationally in the country with a .479 batting average. She was also named a Top 10 Finalist for NFCA/Schutt Sports National Freshman of the Year and was the 2016 Big South Freshman of the Year. Forbes opened her sophomore season on the USA Softball Top 50 Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List before leading the Sun Belt Conference with a .406 batting average and earning 2017 NFCA All-Central Region honors.
In her junior season at Florida International, Forbes was second on the team with a .302 batting average and started 44 of the 46 games she played in.
The Redmond, Wash. native was a First Team All-Kingco Conference and All-Area selection in high school. Forbes batted .535 with nine doubles, three triples, three home runs and 23 RBIs her senior season.
