RALEIGH, N.C. – Championship season continues for the Wolfpack as NC State sends a group of current and former swimmers to the 18th FINA World Championships held in Gwangju, South Korea. Open water competition runs July 13-19, and pool swimming events are set for July 21-28 at the Nambu University Municipal Aquatics Center.
A total of eight members of the Pack will be competing at the international meet, which will continue to set the stage for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Hannah Moore (United States) kicks off action for NC State's swimmers this week as she competes in a pair of open water events for Team USA. Sophie Hansson (Sweden), Sirena Rowe (Colombia) and Tamila Holub (Portugal) are also among the Wolfpack women in attendance at the meet.
On the men's side, the Wolfpack will be represented by rising sophomore Nyls Korstanje (Netherlands) and NC State alumni Andreas Vazaios (Greece), Anton Ipsen (Denmark) and Simonas Bilis (Lithuania).
All eight swimmers have garnered All-America citations at least once during their NC State careers, highlighted by national champions Vazaios, Ipsen and Bilis. Those three represented their respective countries at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Jaineiro, Brazil, as did Hansson.
The entirety of the 2019 World Championships will be broadcast live on FINAtv. A full schedule for the meet, with times adjusted to EST, is below.
