RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team used its selection in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Draft by electing to make the trip to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Virginia regional in January 2020.
The Wolfpack will be the No. 2 seed in the region, joining No. 3 seed Utah State and No. 4 seed Memphis to round out the draw. The Cavaliers, who ended the season ranked fifth in the nation to earn their spot as the regional host, are the No. 1 seed.
The four teams will compete in one of 15 ITA Kick-Off regionals set to take place across the nation during the weekend of Jan. 24-26, 2020. The tournament is run in a single-elimination format, with the winner of each regional site advancing to the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championships, which will be hosted by Wisconsin from Feb. 14-17.
NC State will open its weekend at the tournament by facing the No. 3 seed Aggies. Utah State finished the 2018-19 season ranked No. 58 nationally with a 19-9 record and an appearance in the Mountain West semifinals.
NC State ended the 2019 spring season with its best final national ranking since the 2007 season as it was tabbed No. 23 in the final Oracle/ITA Team Rankings of the year. The squad finished with a 19-11 overall record as it amassed the most single-season victories since the 2012 campaign. The Pack set a program record with eight league wins during regular-season action and took down a total of seven nationally-ranked opponents on the year. NC State capped off its record-setting season by advancing to the NCAA Championships second round for the first time since 2014.
