RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State volleyball head coach Linda Hampton-Keith announced the addition of transfer Mmachi Nwoke to the Wolfpack roster on Wednesday. Nwoke is a 6-1 middle blocker who joins the Pack after spending her sophomore and junior seasons at Kansas.
"I am excited to welcome Mmachi to the Wolfpack!" said Hampton-Keith. "I have known Mmachi for a long time having gone through the recruiting process with her before, so it will be a reuniting of sorts for us. Mmachi will add depth to our roster and a high level of experience to our team that will help our program to continue to grow. I expect her to immediately impact the level of play in our gym."
A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Nwoke played in 21 matches as a junior at Kansas, making the start in 18 of those appearances. She tallied 88 kills in 2018, highlighted by a double-figure kill performance against the College of Charleston where she posted a season-high 11.
Nwoke also posted 78 total blocks during her junior campaign with the Jayhawks, and her 1.08 blocks per set ranked third on the team last season. She logged five or more blocks during eight matches in 2018, including a season-high nine in Kansas' match against Texas Tech.
Nwoke's sophomore season at Kansas saw her appear in 13 matches with six starts during Big 12 action. Her first start as a Jayhawk came in Kansas' win over Oklahoma where she tallied a season-best 11 kills on 14 errorless swings and five blocks.
She played at Arizona State during the 2016 season as a freshman, totaling 54 kills and 45 blocks for the Sun Devils.
Nwoke attended South Grand Prairie High School, where she earned all-state honors in 2015 and was named 2014 Grand Prairie Offensive Player of the Year. She led the team in blocks and kills during both her junior and senior seasons of high school, including a senior campaign with 125 blocks and 344 kills.
She is the daughter of Kenn and Nneka Nwoke, and she also has three siblings, Chimez, Ijeoma and Uchenna. Her younger sister Uchenna is a rising sophomore on the volleyball team at Duke.
