RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team released its schedule for the 2019 season, as announced by head coach Linda Hampton-Keith on Monday.
The Pack's slate features 17 matches against squads that finished the 2018 season ranked in the top 100 of the NCAA RPI, including six contests against teams ranked inside the top 50.
Five of NC State's 2019 opponents qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2018, and four of the Wolfpack's matchups in the coming season will be played against teams that reached the final of or won their respective conference championships.
NC State will host 12 home matches inside Reynolds Coliseum.
"Scheduling is always a challenging and exciting endeavor," said Hampton-Keith. "We continue to schedule with a vision in mind to challenge ourselves in ways that will make us better, prepare us for our ACC schedule and position our team for postseason play."
The Wolfpack opens the 2019 campaign at home on Friday, August 30 as it hosts a pair of matches. NC State is set to match up against Austin Peay to kick off the season and will also square off against Kansas State later that day.
"We want to bring great volleyball to Reynolds Coliseum when we have the chance to do so," said Hampton-Keith. "Our venue is first class, Raleigh is a desirable location and we want to contribute to our volleyball community by bringing in great opponents to play here. We feel we have done that again this year in Austin Peay, Kansas State and ECU."
NC State will then travel to Richmond, Va., from Sept. 5-7 for a tournament hosted by VCU. The Wolfpack begins weekend action against the host Rams and will also face UC Santa Barbara and Alabama during the tournament.
The Pack makes its return to Reynolds Coliseum to host East Carolina on Tuesday, Sept. 10 before hitting the road again for back-to-back tournaments.
"We love playing at home and are very successful in Reynolds Coliseum, but one aspect of our program we want to improve upon is our ability to be a great road team," said Hampton-Keith. "We feel like in order to push our program where we want to go, being able to find our rhythm and success on the road is key in our preparation for the challenging ACC schedule in front of us."
NC State heads to Boone, N.C., to play Western Carolina on Sept. 13 and Iowa State and Appalachian State on Sept. 14.
The team will then participate in the ACC-SEC Challenge for the second season in a row. Georgia is set to host the event, which will pit the Wolfpack up against the Bulldogs on Sept. 19 and against Arkansas on Sept. 20. NC State is set to play host to the ACC-SEC Challenge in 2020.
Non-conference action wraps up for the Pack on Sept. 22 as the squad travels to Greenville, S.C., to take on Furman.
The Wolfpack opens ACC action with a weekend on the road with matches at Louisville (Sept. 27) and Notre Dame (Sept. 29).
The squad's first home match in conference play will be on Wednesday, Oct. 2 against rival North Carolina. The match against the Tar Heels kicks off a span of four-straight contests inside Reynolds Coliseum.
Over the course of conference competition, NC State will also play host to Virginia Tech (Oct. 4), Florida State (Oct. 11), Miami (Oct. 13), Boston College (Oct. 25), Syracuse (Oct. 27), Clemson (Nov. 1), Georgia Tech (Nov. 3) and Pittsburgh (Nov. 24).
The Pack's ACC road matches also include visits to Virginia (Oct. 18), Pittsburgh (Oct. 20), Wake Forest (Nov. 8), Duke (Nov. 10), Miami (Nov. 15), Georgia Tech (Nov. 17) and Boston College (Nov. 30).
"I am confident in our team going into the fall," said Hampton-Keith. "I look forward to watching them rise to the level our schedule will demand of us."
As announced by the ACC earlier this month, three NC State volleyball matches will be aired on the ACC Network in the fall. The Pack's home match against North Carolina (Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.) and road visits to Pittsburgh (Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.) and Miami (Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.) will be televised, with NC State's Oct. 20 contest at Pittsburgh being carried on ESPNU.
