GREENSBORO, N.C. – Recent graduate Michael Ogden and rising senior Alexis Galarneau of the NC State men's tennis team were selected to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Friday.
The honors mark the second season in a row that Galarneau and Ogden have been recognized for their successes in the classroom after they each garnered the first all-conference academic recognitions of their careers in 2018.
The Wolfpack captains paired up in doubles for the majority of the 2019 dual match campaign, playing a total of 18 doubles matches together over the course of the season. They picked up 11 victories as a pair, all at the top doubles spot for NC State. The duo defeated three nationally-ranked opponents on the year, with two of those ranked wins coming during ACC action.
The pair ended the season ranked No. 28 in the final Oracle/ITA doubles rankings, which ranks fourth in program history and is the best end-of-season doubles ranking for the Pack since 2014.
Galarneau also put together a stellar singles campaign during his junior year, posting a 16-10 overall singles record during the 2019 season. Seven of his victories came against opponents who were nationally ranked. He ended his year by earning an at-large bid to compete at the NCAA Singles Championships, becoming the first Wolfpack player since at least 2000 to reach the national tournament in back-to-back seasons.
The Laval, Canada, native racked up postseason awards as he was honored as a member of the First Team All-ACC for the second season in a row and was named the ITA Carolina Region Player to Watch.
After finishing in the final singles standings for three seasons in a row, Galarneau achieved the best final ranking of his career with a No. 26 designation. His final singles ranking is the highest for a Wolfpack player in recorded ITA history.
A business management major, Galarneau posted a 3.385 grade point average (GPA) in the spring of 2019. Ogden, a business administration major from Salisbury, N.C., compiled a 3.167 GPA during the spring semester.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 GPA during the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA during their academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered.
The ACC Honor Roll for all conference student-athletes is set to be released in July.
