Wolfpack to Host Terrapins in 2019 B1G/ACC Challenge

Former ACC rivals will meet for the 79th time

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NC State women's basketball team will host Maryland on Thursday, December 5 in the 2019 installment of the B1G/ACC Challenge, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday morning.

The upcoming game on Kay Yow Court inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum will mark the 79th meeting between the two programs. NC State holds a 43-35 advantage in the series and is 23-7 at home against Maryland. In the last meeting between the teams, NC State defeated Maryland in Raleigh 74-60 in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament to advance to the Sweet 16.

In last season's Challenge, NC State defeated Michigan 66-55 in Raleigh to help the ACC win its ninth outright title in the competition. The ACC is 89-61 against the B1G in Challenge games and is 9-0-3 overall, having never lost to its conference competitor.

Both NC State and Maryland competed in the NCAA Tournament last season. The third-seeded Terrapins concluded a 29-5 season with a loss to sixth-seeded UCLA in the second round of the tournament while third-seeded NC State advanced to its second consecutive Sweet 16 before falling to second-seeded Iowa and ending the year with a 28-6 mark.
