
Melissa Evans Set for Summer Action with USA Volleyball

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Rising junior Melissa Evans became the first-ever NC State volleyball player to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team as she was selected for USA Volleyball's 28-player roster.
Evans is one of four opposite hitters selected to the CNT-Anaheim roster. The team will train June 23-29 at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif., highlighted by a public Red-Blue scrimmage on June 28.
The Lone Tree, Colo. native heads to California to represent the United States on the national team after turning in a solid sophomore campaign during the 2018 season. Evans was named to the Second Team All-ACC after tallying 349 kills and recording double-digit figures in the category in nearly every match with an average of 3.17 kills per set.
Evans charted a season-high 20 kills in the Wolfpack's season opener against VCU and put down 18 kills in NC State's victory over Wright State, the most by any player in the ACC in a three-set match at the time.
She also finished the season with the second-most aces on the squad with 18, which includes a season-high three in two outings during the 2018 season. Evans logged 191 digs and notched double figures six times to compile a total of five double-doubles.
Evans earned a spot on the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team after attending open tryouts from March 1-3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A total of 218 athletes competed for spots on the national teams, one of which was claimed by Evans.
