RALEIGH – Pitcher Abby Trahan has signed a financial aid agreement to join NC State's softball program, as announced by head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift on Wednesday morning.
Trahan, a Kaplan, La. native, comes to Raleigh after spending the 2018 season at Southern Miss. She previously played under Coach Patrick-Swift for two years at Saint Francis, and Trahan heads to NC State with one remaining year of eligibility.
"Abby is the ultimate competitor that will make a huge impact when she steps foot on campus in August," said Patrick-Swift. "Having recruited and coached her for two years at Saint Francis, she always wanted the ball on the biggest stage and backed it up. She will be as advertised. Wolfpack Nation will absolutely love watching Abby Trahan in the circle."
Trahan joins the Wolfpack after being named 2019 C-USA Pitcher of the Year as Southern Miss's ace. She ended the regular season with a 1.89 ERA and a 14-11 record in 27 starts and 30 total appearances. Trahan pitched 19 complete games, including seven shutouts, and tallied a total of 129 strikeouts during the 2019 campaign.
The right-handed hurler also found tremendous success under Coach Patrick-Swift at Saint Francis, where she was named NEC Rookie of the Year in 2017 and NEC Pitcher of the Year in 2018. She was named to the NFCA All-Region Teams during both of those seasons at Saint Francis. Trahan was also named First Team All-NEC in 2018 after going a perfect 11-0 in league play, allowing just six earned runs with 52 strikeouts in NEC action. She led the conference in total wins that season with 28, a number that ranked seventh in the NCAA.
Prior to collegiate softball, Trahan helped Kaplan High School to a state title in 2016, posting a 23-5 record during that season with a 0.73 ERA and six no-hitters. She batted .482 as a high school senior with six home runs and 28 RBIs, and she was named Louisiana AAA Player of the Year and First Team All-State during the 2016 season.
