COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – NC State head coach Braden Holloway will be the men's head coach of USA Swimming's 2019 World University Games team, as announced Wednesday morning. It marks Holloway's second time serving as a coach on the World University Games staff after he served as an assistant in 2017.
The World University Games are an international sports competition that is held every two years and hosted by different countries. This summer's competition marks the 30th Summer World University Games, which will be held in Naples, Italy. The event is set to run July 3-14, with the seven-day swimming competition is scheduled for July 4-10.
NC State's swimming and diving teams have found unparalleled success under Holloway's leadership, and he was selected as head coach of the United States squad following another stellar 2018-19 season for his programs.
The Wolfpack men and the women swept the 2019 ACC Championships team titles for the second time in three years, with the Pack men winning their fifth-straight conference title. Both teams went on to tie program-best finishes at the NCAA Championships as the women placed seventh and the men secured their fourth team trophy and podium finish in a row with their fourth-place finish at the national meet. Following the season, Holloway was named ACC Men's Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row.
In addition to Holloway being named head coach for the upcoming World University Games, six from the NC State men's and women's swimming teams were selected to USA Swimming's roster. Elise Haan, Hannah Moore, Ky-lee Perry, Justin Ress, Makayla Sargent and Coleman Stewart will make up part of a 52-member squad of swimmers that will represent the United States.
NC State's six team members are the most between combined programs out of the 17 schools that are represented on the roster, and the four Wolfpack women on the roster are the most by any of the collegiate women's programs that are represented.
