NC State Welcomes No. 2 Wake Forest to Raleigh Wednesday

RALEIGH, N.C. – For the third time in four matches, the No. 30 NC State men's tennis team (11-6, 2-1 ACC) will face an opponent ranked in the national top three as it hosts second-ranked Wake Forest on Wednesday at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
MATCH INFO:
Admission to all home matches is free. Fans who plan on attending Wednesday's match will need to obtain a virtual event parking permit to park in the West Deck or West Lot. A link to this free parking pass can be found here.
The match against Wake Forest will be Wolf Hand Wednesday. Fans who attend the match can pick up a foam wolf hand while supplies last, and there will also be free pizza available while supplies last. Wednesday is also International Students Day and Alumni Association Day.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State concluded a solid weekend of ACC action with a dominating win over Louisville as it took down the Cardinals by a 4-1 score. After winning the doubles point for the fourth time in the last five doubles competitions, the Pack picked up three quick singles wins to close out the team victory over Louisville.
Tadas Babelis, Georgiy Malyshev and Alexis Galarneau each won their singles matches in straight sets, with Malyshev and Galarneau picking up the 50th singles victories of their NC State careers.
PACK IN THE POLLS:
NC State remained ranked in the top 30 of the national standings as it checked in at No. 30 in the latest release of the poll. The Pack has been featured in every poll since it first jumped into the rankings on Jan. 30.
Galarneau continued to rise in the singles rankings after another solid weekend during which he went unbeaten against a pair of opponents. The Wolfpack junior checked in at a season-best No. 18, just two spots below the highest ranking of his career, after defeating No. 15 Carl Söderlund of Virginia and Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff over the weekend.
Galarneau and Michael Ogden, who have posted a 5-2 record on the season as a pair, returned to the doubles rankings, checking in at No. 57.
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS:
Wake Forest is 18-3 on the season and has yet to lose an ACC match as it enters Wednesday with a perfect 4-0 clip in conference action. The Demon Deacons have won three straight matches and most recently picked up an ACC win over No. 3 Virginia by a 6-1 score at home.
The defending national champions started the season ranked No. 1 for four straight polls and have remained ranked in the top two for the entirety of the 2019 campaign. Wake Forest owns the No. 2 ranking coming into Wednesday's match.
Wake Forest boasts a solid lineup with four singles players and two doubles pairs featured in the national rankings. Petros Chrysochos, the defending national champion in singles, is ranked No. 3 to lead the Demon Deacons. Bar Botzer (No. 22) and Borna Gojo (No. 50) are also among the nation's top 50 singles players, and Melios Efstathiou rounds out the rankings for Wake Forest at No. 79.
Chrysochos and Botzer pair up to form the nations No. 26 duo, while Gojo and Alan Gadjiev are ranked No. 61 in doubles.
The squads played a tight match in Winston-Salem last season, with Wake Forest coming away with the narrow 4-3 victory.
