
Smith Named ACC Freshman of the Week for Third Time this Season

Smith Went 4-0 in the No. 11 Pack's Doubleheader
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Alana Smith has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday. The freshman has garnered the accolade three times this season, tied for the most with UNC-CH's Cameron Morra. Smith's performance this week helped the Pack to a perfect weekend, defeating Clemson 6-1 and Appalachian State 7-0, to improve to 14-3 (5-1) on the season.
Smith posted a 4-0 record on the week, including two doubles wins on court one and two singles wins on court two.
In doubles, 12th-ranked Smith and Anna Rogers picked up an impressive win over No. 4 Marie Leduc and Fernanda Navarro (Clemson), defeating the duo 6-3. Smith and Rogers are 7-1 on the season against nationally ranked opponents and have defeated two duos ranked in the top five.
The Fort Washington, Md., native earned her fourth ranked singles win of the season, defeating No. 105 Fernanda Navarro (Clemson) in straight sets. In the second leg of the Pack's doubleheader, she defeated Kate Earnhardt, 6-1, 6-2 (Appalachian State). The freshman is tabbed at No. 90 in the Oracle/ITA Division I singles rankings.
Smith and her teammates will be back in action at the Paribas Open on Fri., March 15 at 11 p.m. ET to take on No. 50 Baylor.
