Softball Tops South Florida, 2-1

TAMPA, Fla. – The NC State softball team (2-1) captured its second win of the season on Saturday evening at the USF Opening Weekend Invitational in Tampa, Fla. The Wolfpack topped host South Florida (1-3), who is currently receiving votes for the national polls, 2-1, as Randi Farricker's two-run homer in the fifth was the deciding factor of the game.
Of Note
-Farricker went two-for-three with a triple and a home run.
-The Pack has hit at least one home run in each of its its first three games of the season.
-Sam Russ, Logan Morris and Angie Rizzi each tallied a base hit in the contest.
-Devin Wallace (2-0) threw her first complete game of the season, giving up four hits and an unearned run while striking out three batters.
How It Happened
-AnaMarie Bruni got the Bulls on the board in the first after leading off with a hit-by-pitch and advancing to third on a pair of groundouts. A dropped third strike passed ball allowed her to cross home plate.
-In the fifth, Farricker came up clutch for the Pack with a two-run home run to left field after Rizzi led off the inning with a single up the middle.
-The Bulls attempted to take back its lead in the sixth after loading the bases on a base hit, fielder's choice and intentional walk, but April Visser turned the 6-3 double play to end the threat.
-A two-out error and stolen base in the seventh allowed Bruni to get in scoring position, but Natalie Jones fielded the ground ball to Farricker for the final out of the game.

NC State will wrap up competition Sunday at the USF Opening Weekend Invitational. The squad will face No. 7 Arizona at 11:15 a.m. and No. 5 Florida at 1:30 p.m.
