Smith Earns ACC Co-Freshman of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Alana Smith has been named ACC Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday. The announcement marks the second time this season Smith has earned the award.
No. 73 Smith's singles victory over No. 14 Virginia's Vivian Glozman helped the Pack open its conference slate with a win for the first time in five seasons, defeating the Cavaliers, 5-2, on Fri., Feb. 22.
The Fort Washington, Md., native defeated No. 13 Meghan Kelley/Sofia Munera (Virginia) in doubles, 6-3, with Anna Rogers. The win marked the duo's sixth ranked doubles victory this season. Smith and Rogers check in at No. 10 in the doubles edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings.
On Sunday, No. 10 Smith and Rogers followed up Friday's doubles win with a 6-2 victory over No. 36 Boston College's Jackie Urbinati/Kylie Wilcox. Their doubles victory contributed to capturing the doubles point and a team win over the Eagles, 5-2. The 2-0 ACC start is the best in program history in 20 years.
Smith is 3-1 against nationally ranked singles opponents and 6-0 against nationally ranked doubles opponents.
The No. 11 NC State women's tennis team (10-2, 2-0) will be back in action Wed., Feb. 27 at 3 p.m., as the Pack takes on the No. 1 Tar Heels (13-1, 1-0) at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
