NC State opens conference meet by setting program, ACC records in the event
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wolfpack kicked off the 2019 ACC Championships with a statement performance as NC State's women took first place in the 200-yard medley relay for the third year in a row.
Elise Haan, Sophie Hansson, Sirena Rowe and Ky-lee Perry teamed up to win gold in the first swimming final of the conference meet, clocking a 1:34.52 for the win. The time is a new program record and reset the ACC and championship records that the Pack already owned from the 2017 season.
Haan led off with a 24.02 backstroke split, Hansson went 26.26 in the breaststroke, Perry clocked a 23.22 butterfly split, and Perry closed with a 21.02 freestyle mark. The Wolfpack women dropped over a second off of their best time of the season to improve their NCAA A cut.
The 800-yard freestyle relay was also contested Wednesday night, with NC State taking fourth place as Julia Poole, Kylee Alons, Kate Moore and Olivia Fisher touched the wall in an NCAA A cut time of 7:02.50.
NC State's divers opened competition in the prelims, with the men in action on the one-meter and the women on the three-meter. The Pack men secured a pair of top-15 finishes in the one-meter prelims as Holt Gray posted a score of 271.95 to place 11th and James Brady finished 13th with a 270.80 mark.
NC State will continue action at the ACC Championships on Friday, with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and the finals slated for 6 p.m. Friday night's finals will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra.
