Softball Suffers Setback Against Nebraska In ACC/B1G Challenge

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team (3-5) suffered a 6-0 loss to Nebraska (6-2) on Saturday evening in the ACC/B1G Challenge at Dail Stadium. Despite putting runners at first and second on multiple occasions in the contest, the Wolfpack was unable to bring a run across for its first shutout of the season.
Of Note
-Brigette Nordberg tallied the Wolfpack's two hits in the contest.
-Devin Wallace (1-2) was credited with the loss as she gave up four runs (three earned) on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Sydney Nester came into the circle for her in the second inning and did not allow an earned run. Wallace and Nester fanned three batters apiece and issued a combined three walks.
How It Happened
-The Huskers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. A dropped third strike wild pitch brought the first run in, and a single and double to left field plated the next two. With runners at second and third with one out, a fly out to center field secured the second out, but a fielding error on the throw home allowed a fourth run to score.
-After a two-out error put a runner on, Lindsey Walljasper's two-run homer to center field in the fifth gave Nebraska the 6-0 advantage.
-The Pack managed to get a pair of runners on in the first and fifth innings but could not bring a run across.
On Deck
NC State will wrap up competition Sunday in the ACC/B1G Challenge when it faces Wisconsin at 12:30 p.m. at Dail Stadium. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
