
NC State Falls at No. 2 Duke

Markell Johnson posts his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 assists
DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team fell to second-ranked Duke, 94-78, Saturday night inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
With the loss, NC State drops to 18-8 (6-7 ACC), while the Blue Devils improve to 23-2 (11-1 ACC).
Torin Dorn led the Pack in scoring for the seventh time this season with 17 points. Markell Johnson posted the fifth double-double of his career and his first of the season with 16 points and a season-best 10 assists, and CJ Bryce followed with 13 points.
The Pack shot 50 percent (33-of-66) from the field, matching its best shooting percentage in ACC action this season, but the Blue Devils scored 17 second chance points and capitalized on 22 points off of 12 Wolfpack turnovers to secure the victory.
After trailing by eight at halftime, NC State came within seven points (59-52) once in the second half, but Duke pulled away and held a double-digit lead for the final 6:43 of the game.
The Blue Devils led by as much as 14 (42-28) in the first half, but the Wolfpack knocked down its final four field goal attempts of the opening half to put the score at 48-40 in favor of Duke at the break.
Early fouls by the Pack sent the Blue Devils to the line three times in the first three minutes of action. Despite converting on just one of its first six attempts from the field, Duke went a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe in that span to maintain its early lead.
Duke then went on an 11-2 run from 15:15 to 12:55 in the first half, hitting five attempts from the field in a row to take its first double-digit lead of the night (21-10). NC State did not lead once during the outing.
Freshman Zion Williamson led the Blue Devils in scoring with a game-best 32 points, while RJ Barrett posted a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
NC State returns to PNC Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 20 to host its first matchup of the season against Boston College. Tip-off against the Eagles is set for 7 p.m.
