
Smith Earns ACC Co-Freshman of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. --Â Alana Smith has been named ACC Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Wednesday.

The Fort Washington, Md., native defeated No. 10 Marta Gonzalez in three sets in the team's 4-2 loss against No. 5 Georgia at the ITA National Women's Team Championship. Despite jumping out to an early lead in the first set, Smith battled in the second and third sets for the 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Smith has collected three ranked singles wins this season and has won three of her last four dual matches. Playing on court two the entirety of the young 2019 season, Smith is 5-2 in dual singles play.

The NC State women's tennis team will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 16 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center for a doubleheader with Utah and James Madison at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
