Wolfpack Completes Competition at Winter Airgun Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Four members of the NC State rifle team wrapped up fall competition in both the junior and open categories at the Winter Airgun Championships Dec. 6-8. Program alum Lucas Kozeniesky also participated in the event.
The top finisher in the open category at the event for the Wolfpack was sophomore Emily Fisher with a score of 615.6 on the first day and 618.9 on the second day for a match score of 1234.5. Fisher's score was good for a 30th place finish out of 215 competitors. Fisher's 1234.5 put her in 20th place in the junior category.
Fisher was closely followed in the women's open standings by two of the Wolfpack's freshmen at the meet. In her first Winter Airgun Championship, Makenzie Sheffield shoot a 1229.5, finishing in 42nd place. Addy Burrow rounded out the scores for the Wolfpack women, firing a 1226.6 and finishing in 51st place. Sheffield finished 27th in the junior category while Burrow completed the event in 35th.
In the open category on the men's side, freshman John Peterson completed the event in 43rd place with a score of 1213.7. In the junior category, Peterson's score was good for a 25th-place finish.
Kozeniesky was the champion of the event, finishing the competition with a 1259.2. With the Winter Airgun Championships serving as part one of the 2020 Olympic Trials, Kozeniesky looks to earn his second consecutive berth on the US Olympic Team. The Trials conclude this spring. Â
