RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's tennis head coach Kyle Spencer announced a 2020 spring schedule that features another challenging slate of opponents.
Over the course of the upcoming season, the Wolfpack will compete in dual matches against 17 teams that finished the 2019 dual season featured in the final ITA/Oracle rankings. Six of NC State's 2020 opponents finished in the top 25 last season, and four of those teams completed their 2019 seasons ranked in the top 10. The Pack will face 10 teams that also qualified for and competed in the 2019 NCAA Championships.
NC State will play host to 11 matches at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center over the course of the 2020 season. In addition, the team will play a pair of matches at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., including one against reigning NCAA Champion Texas.
The season opens with a home doubleheader on Jan. 11 with matches against Elon (11 a.m.) and USC Upstate (4 p.m.). The pair of matches will be NC State's only at home in the month of January. Following the season opener, the Wolfpack will make a trip north to take on Michigan (Jan. 15) and Northwestern (Jan. 17).
NC State then heads to Charlottesville, Va., to participate in ITA Kickoff Weekend from Jan. 25-26. As the No. 2 seed in the regional, the Wolfpack will first match up against Utah State at 10 a.m. on Jan. 25 and will face either Virginia or Memphis on the second day of competition. The team that wins both of its matches on the weekend will advance to the ITA Division I Men's Team Indoor Championship, which will be hosted by Wisconsin from Feb. 14-17.
The first weekend in February, the Wolfpack will travel to Penn (Feb. 1) and then move on to take on Princeton (Feb. 2) before returning home to host a doubleheader against Campbell and North Carolina Central (Feb. 15).
On March 1, NC State will compete at the Cary Tennis Park against the Texas Longhorns (12 p.m.) and North Carolina A&T (4 p.m.). The Wolfpack's remaining non-conference schedule also includes a home match against UNCG (March 13) and a trip to South Carolina (March 25).
The Pack will open conference play on March 4 as it hosts rival North Carolina at 5 p.m. The remaining slate of NC State's home conference matchups includes Boston College (March 13), Georgia Tech (March 27), Clemson (March 29), Notre Dame (April 9) and Duke (April 11).
NC State will travel to Virginia Tech (March 7), Wake Forest (March 15), Virginia (March 20), Louisville (March 22), Miami (April 3) and Florida State (April 5) in 2020.
The ACC Championships will take place April 15-19 in Rome, Ga., and the Wolfpack will await its NCAA Championships fate following that tournament.
NC State finished the 2018-19 year with a 19-11 dual-match record, the most wins in a single season for the team since 2012. Seven of those 19 wins were over ranked opponents, and the Pack's eight ACC victories set a program record for the most conference wins in a season.
Admission to all home matches is free.
