Vazaios Crushes 200 IM European Record at Short Course Championships

GLASGOW, Scotland – Wolfpack swimming alumnus Andreas Vazaios took down the all-time European record in the 200-meter individual medley as he won gold in the event at the 2019 LEN European Short Course Championships.
The Athens, Greece, native smashed the national, championship and European records with a time of 1:50.85 on Friday. His mark beat out the previous European best of 1:51.35, which has ranked atop all European 200-meter individual medley swims since December of 2015. Vazaios' time is also the fastest in the world this season and is an all-time top-five swim.
Vazaios was a four-time NCAA champion and 14-time All-American at NC State. He recently completed his decorated career by repeating as national champion in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
