GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third consecutive season, junior Melissa Evans has received All-ACC honors. Evans was named one of 14 athletes on the All-ACC Second Team Monday afternoon, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Between the first and second teams, 28 athletes represented 12 schools. Pitt and Georgia Tech led the conference with six honorees apiece.
Evans is one of five active players to have received their third or fourth All-ACC honor as she joins Florida State's Taryn Knuth and Pitt's Kayla Lund as the only juniors to have three All-ACC honors. Additionally, Evans becomes just the third player in program history to receive three ACC postseason honors.
In her junior season, Evans tallied a team-best 408 kills which currently ranks second in the ACC. She is the second player in the rally-scoring era of the program to eclipse 400 kills, behind Julia Brown who did so in both 2016 and '17. Her 408 kills are third in rally scoring era of the program and brings her career total to 959.
Evans averaged 3.55 kills per set this season, which ranks seventh in the ACC, and recorded double-digit kills in 24 of 28 matches she played in. She also had five 20+ kill matches, including two with a career-high 23 kills. In 2019, Evans recorded a .218 hitting percentage and averaged 1.15 digs per set. Additionally, she ranked third on the team with 73 blocks.
The Wolfpack finished this season 11-19 with a 6-12 record in conference play. NC State played a total of eight teams who advanced to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Led by Evans, the Pack is set to return 14 players from this season's roster.
