RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 3/7 NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to make their first road trip of the season as they head to Lexington, Ky., for a quad meet. The two-day event is set to start with a 4 p.m. session on Thursday and will conclude with a 10 a.m. session on Friday.
The Pack match up against a solid field of nationally-ranked opponents at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. Host and No. 17/14 Kentucky, No. 4/9 Missouri and Arkansas will all join NC State in action at the meet.
MEET INFO:
Each individual event at the quad meet will have two scoring heats, with the Wolfpack allowed up to four entries per event. There will only be one scored heat per relay.
The order of events for both days of action is below:
Thursday – 4 PM start
Friday – 10 AM start
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State opened its 2019-20 campaign at home on Oct. 25. The Wolfpack swept the visiting South Carolina Gamecocks, with the seventh-ranked Wolfpack women winning 197-100 and the No. 3 Pack men taking a 194-104 victory.
Between the two programs, NC State posted the best times/highest scores in 26 of the 32 events contested. The Wolfpack swept the podium a total of 11 times over the Gamecocks.
PACK IN THE POLLS:
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its first poll of the regular season on Oct. 23. In that most current edition of the rankings, NC State's men remained at No. 3, and the Wolfpack women are ranked No. 7.
Both NC State squads were ranked in the national top four to start the season. The Pack men began the year at No. 3 overall as the highest-ranked ACC squad, and the Wolfpack women checked in at No. 4 in the nation.
STRONG START:
The Wolfpack's team victories in its season opener against South Carolina were helped by strong performances by multiple individuals. Thirteen swims between the men's and women's squads currently rank in the top 16 in collegiate competition this season.
Kate Moore kicked off her junior campaign by dropping one of the fastest 400-yard individual medley times in the nation in the Pack's meet against South Carolina. The captain won the event in 4:10.50, a mark that ranks second in the nation.
Sophomores Sophie Hansson, Kylee Alons and Emma Muzzy each own a pair of top-16 marks.
Hansson, who took home a pair of bronze medals at the 2019 NCAA Championships, ranks ninth in the nation in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.65) in the early stages of the season and 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.78).
Alons ranks seventh nationally in the 100-yard backstroke (53.02) and is joined in that event by Muzzy (53.70), who ranks 15th. Their times also rank first and second in the conference, with Berkoff (53.77) joining them to round out the top-three ACC times.
Makayla Sargent added two impressive marks of her own. Her runner-up finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4"13.51) is good for eighth nationally, and her 200-yard butterfly victory (1:58.78) ranks 14th in the country.
On the men's side, three individuals dropped top-six national times in the first meet of the season. Senior captain Coleman Stewart ranks fourth in the nation in the 100-yard backstroke (46.59), sophomore Nyls Korstanje sits at fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (19.84) and freshman Ross Dant stands in sixth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:03.08). Dant's time is also the fastest among all freshman in the nation.
STEWART SWIMMER OF THE WEEK:
After winning three individual events in the Wolfpack's season opener, Stewart was named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 29. The York, Pa., native won all three events in his triple and was the top scorer for the Pack men at the meet.
The reigning ACC Men's Swimmer of the Year picked up victories in the 100-yard backstroke (46.59), 100-yard butterfly (47.79) and 100-yard freestyle (44.32). All three of those times rank in the top 25 in the nation.
UP NEXT:
NC State returns to action Nov. 21-23 as its hosts the NC State/GAC Invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
