Thayer Thomas Named to Burlsworth Trophy Watch List

NC State wide receiver/punt returner Thayer Thomas has been nominated to receive the 2019 Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on.

Thomas currently leads the ACC in punt returns with a 14.9 yard average – the fourth-best mark in the FBS. He has 26 receptions for the season for a gain of 283 yards and has caught three touchdown catches. He has also thrown for a pair of scores this season.

The redshirt sophomore from Wake Forest, N.C., was also a member of the Wolfpack baseball squad in 2019 and was drafted in the 33^rd round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox.

Named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth, a former University of Arkansas walk-on and All-American offensive lineman, the trophy will be awarded in December.
