Hayden Hidlay Named Co-ACC Wrestle of the Week

Top-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds defeated No. 4 Early from ODU

RALEIGH, N.C. – After the first weekend of action for the ninth-ranked NC State wrestling team, R-Jr. Hayden Hidlay was named the co-ACC Wrestler of the Week for his perfect 6-0 record this past weekend.

Hidlay, the consensus #1 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds, started his season with a 6-4 win over #4 Larry Early of Old Dominion in his first match of the season. Trailing 4-3 entering the final period, Hidlay scored an escape to even it up at the start of the third, and then notched the winning takedown with just five seconds left.

Two days later, Hidlay went a perfect 5-0 and won the 157-pound weight class at the Wolfpack Wrestling Club Open. In the finals, he scored a first-period pin over UNC's McClure. Four of his five wins were for bonus points, as he outscored his foes 53-2 in addition to the pin.
