RALEIGH, N.C. – Headlined by five top-25 opponents and 21 games against 2019 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, the NC State softball team has released its 2020 schedule. The Pack will play host to 38 home games in Dail Softball Stadium.
Season tickets are now available here. Season tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for seniors/youth.
"This is the first schedule our staff has had the opportunity to put together and with it we are trying to prepare this team for its first NCAA postseason appearance since 2015," said head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift. "Our first four weekends are jam-packed with teams that should make appearances in the 2020 postseason."
NC State's 2020 slate opens in Clearwater, Fla., at the previously announced NFCA Leadoff Classic, Feb. 7-9, where the Pack will take on four Power 5 opponents who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The field includes 2019 Women's College World Series participant Minnesota as the Pack's season opener. The weekend concludes with games against Ole Miss, Kentucky, Missouri State and Mississippi State.
The team's home slate kicks off Feb. 14-16 with the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Dail Softball Stadium and the Wolfpack play host to the tournament for the fifth consecutive year. NC State's opponents include Ohio State and Illinois, both of whom reached the postseason a year ago. Notre Dame will be the other ACC team in attendance at the Raleigh host site.
"Last year, we ended the season playing strong at home, and we look to continue that trend throughout the 2020 season," said Patrick-Swift.
The Pack then plays host to back-to-back home tournaments beginning with the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational (Feb. 21-23). NC State will take on Bucknell, St. Joseph's and Indiana before hosting the NC State Invitational (Feb. 28-March 1) which features Lehigh, North Carolina A&T and James Madison. JMU earned its fifth Colonial Athletic Association title last season on its way to a 51-10 record and the NCAA Super Regionals.
The team's 25-game ACC schedule kicks off with two home series against high-level opponents, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. Both the Irish and Hokies made NCAA Regional appearances last season, while Virginia Tech finished the 2019 season ranked 23rd in the NFCA Coaches Poll.
"This year's home ACC series are matchups that should produce very high-quality softball at Dail Stadium, and with a total of 38 home games, it gives Wolfpack Nation several chances to see us in action." said Patrick-Swift.
NC State then welcomes first-year program Clemson to Dail March 21-22 before traveling to back-to-back road series. The Pack travels to Pitt for a three-game series (March 27-29) before heading back up north to Syracuse (April 3-5).
The team returns to conference action April 17-19, hosting rival North Carolina. One final road trip comes April 24-26 as the team visits Louisville before concluding the regular season at home against Boston College (May 1-3).
A competitive non-conference slate includes mid-week tilts against Duke (Feb. 26) and Elon (Feb. 19), Norfolk State (March 10), East Carolina (March 18), North Carolina A&T (March 25), UNCG (April 1), Campbell (April 8), NCCU (April 14) and Furman (April 22). The Pack will also host Mercer for a three-game non-conference series, April 10-11.
The 2020 ACC Softball Championships will be held May 6-9 at Ulmer Stadium on the campus of University of Louisville. The NCAA Postseason kicks off for the 64 selected teams with Regionals from May 17-19 followed by Super Regionals from May 23-26. This year's Women's College World Series will take place May 30-June 5.
The Wolfpack compiled 31 wins in 2019, the first season under the guidance of Jennifer Patrick-Swift. That number was the most for the team in a single season since 2015. The Pack entered the top 25 for the first time since 2016 before reaching the semifinals of the ACC Tournament, upsetting No. 1 seed Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals. NC State returns 10 letter winners from a year ago while also adding a total of 10 newcomers (six freshman, four transfers).
