Women’s Golf Adds Isabel Amezcua To Program In Early Signing Period

RALEIGH – Isabel Amezcua has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the NC State women's golf program, as announced by head coach Page Marsh on Thursday.
A Mexico City native who has United States citizenship, she will arrive in Raleigh next fall with an extensive resume.
"We look forward to welcoming Izzy to our women's golf family; she and her family will be a positive addition," said Marsh. "Izzy brings a passion for the game and team golf, which will mesh well with our values. Her courage, vision and tenacity are positively infectious, as she is curious and open-minded with a tireless work ethic. She truly serves and honors our great game.
"Off the course, Izzy is a tremendous student as well as a thoughtful team member. She brings the whole package."
So far in the 2019 season, Amezcua, the fourth-best golfer in the Mexico Girls' 16-18 Division, has earned six top three finishes, including five runner-up showings, among national and international tournaments.
In 2017 and '18, she qualified for the Optimist Junior Golf Championship and finished sixth and 16th, in respective order. In those seasons, her other accomplishments include winning the AGVM Regional Tour in the 2017-18 season, reaching the semifinals of the 2017 Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT) Match Play Championship, as well as four additional top 15 finishes at regional and national tournaments.
Amezcua, who grew up playing at the same club as former standout Ana Menendez (Club de Golf la Hacienda), additionally represented Mexico in the 2017 Texas-Mexico Cup and won three of her four matches.
As a sophomore at New Braunfels High School in New Braunfels, Texas, she won the district championship and earned a fifth-place finish at regionals to qualify for the Texas State 6A High School Championship. Along with earning all-district, all-region and all-state honors on the golf course and in the classroom, she was tabbed 2017 San Antonio Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player at New Braunfels High School.
