TEMPE, Ariz. – The NC State women's tennis team is represented by four players in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I rankings. The squad has three players in the singles top 35 and two duos in the doubles top 25, and both register as program-bests.
Anna Rogers and Alana Smith continue to stand atop the doubles rankings at No. 1 and are joined in the top 35 in singles by teammate Adriana Reami.
SINGLES:
Rogers checks in as the highest ranked player for the Pack at No. 18. The senior tallied a 10-4 record this fall, including a 2-1 record against ranked singles opponents. She advanced to the 2019 ITA Carolina Regional quarterfinal, and needed only straight sets in eight of her 10 victories.
Reami checks in at No. 23 for the highest ranking of her career. The senior has collected nine wins so far this season, including an upset over then 23rd-ranked McCartney Kessler (Florida).
31st-ranked Smith also recorded a career-best in the rankings. The sophomore accumulated a 10-5 fall transcript. The Fort Washington, Md., native collected a top-10 win over No. 9 Jada Hart (UCLA) and took 2019 NCAA Singles Champion Estela Perez-Somarriba (Miami) to three sets.
DOUBLES:
Two doubles tandems represent NC State: No. 1 Rogers and Smith and No. 22 Jaeda Daniel and Reami. The duos posted a combined 8-1 record against nationally ranked opponents this fall, including three top-15 wins by Daniel and Reami.
Rogers and Smith finished the fall season strong at 13-2, accomplishing the program's best finish in the three-year history of the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships, advancing to the doubles final before falling to UCLA's now second-ranked Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart. The NC State All-Americans went undefeated (5-0) and were eventually crowned the 2019 ITA Carolina Regional doubles champions in early October.
Daniel and Reami hold a 9-4 resume. Among those nine wins are two consecutive wins against top-five opponents (No. 5 Okalova/Ploner - Tulsa, No. 4 Bolton/Hart - UCLA). The duo defeated UCLA's eventual 2019 Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships doubles champions 8-2 in dominant fashion.
