RALEIGH – For the third consecutive year, NC State women's soccer (10-6-4) will host the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It will welcome Navy (16-2-3) to Dail Soccer Stadium Friday at 7 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C., and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
This is the fourth consecutive at large bid the Wolfpack has earned under head coach Tim Santoro, and the first time since the 1989-92 seasons the feat has been accomplished by the program.
"You always want to be at home," said Santoro. "Any time you can play home games it's an advantage I believe. We're thrilled we get another chance to be at home."
Overall, the program is 12-12-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has moved forward out of the first round 11 times. The Pack has advanced to the Sweet Sixteen twice in the last three years (2016, '18), and went to the NCAA Second Round in 2017.
"It'll be tough. Any of the 64 teams are tough," added Santoro. "We've played Navy a few times over the last couple of years, and last year was a tight 2-1 game. Any time a team wins that many games, and wins their league and tournament, it's a good team. We'll study up over the next couple of days and be ready for Friday."
