NEW ORLEANS, La. – The NC State men's and women's cross country squads are both featured in the top 10 of the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll. The Wolfpack women have been tabbed No. 9 in the country, and the Pack men are ranked No. 10 nationally.
It marks the first time since Nov. 3, 2015 that both NC State programs are ranked in the top 10 of the national standings at the same time. The Pack boasts the ACC's top-ranked team on both the men's and women's side.
The rankings come after a successful outing at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational during which both teams came away with top-four team finishes. NC State's men placed third as a team at the meet, and the women tallied a fourth-place team finish. Both programs managed to secure a pair of upsets over higher ranked teams in each of their respective races.
The Pack men beat out ACC foe and then ninth-ranked Notre Dame, as well as No. 10 Wisconsin. The result moved them past the Fighting Irish in this week's poll to make NC State the top-ranked ACC squad on the men's side for the first time this season.
NC State's women finished higher than both No. 2 New Mexico and No. 6 Washington at the Notre Dame Invitational. The result maintained the team's spot in the national top 10, where it has been ranked all season.
The Wolfpack will head two ways for its final weekend of regular-season competition as it sends athletes to the ECU Pirate Invitational and the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 18.
