
Pack Finishes Strong to Win Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, NC – The NC State men's golf team shot a team score of eight-under par on Sunday to battle back and win the 2019 Wolfpack Intercollegiate held at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
The Pack opened the day in second place and briefly fell to third-place on the front nine as UNCG made an early charge, but NC State closed strong to claim its home tournament for the third consecutive season.
NC State played clutch golf when it mattered, shooting four-under as a team on the back nine while Campbell shot a six-over par and UNCG a seven-over par on the back nine.
The Pack defeated Campbell by four shots for the win.
Senior Christian Salzer capped a solid weekend of golf with the best collegiate finish of his career. The Sumter, S.C. native finished in second place one shot back of the individual medalist with a 54-hole scorecard of 12-under par.
On Sunday, Salzer made five birdies with just one bogey to finish with a 68. The NC State senior posted a 67-69-68—204 on the weekend.
Salzer has now been the top-finisher in all three events for NC State this season.
Fellow senior Benjamin Shipp was next for the Pack with a finish of eighth place. The Duluth, Ga., native posted three birdies against just one bogey on Sunday to finish with a two-under par 70. For the tournament, Shipp recorded a 71-69-70—210.
Freshman Max Steinlechner posted the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career with a tie for 10th place in the 87-player field.
Steinlechner was especially clutch for the Pack as he posted three consecutive birdies on holes 13-15 to help push NC State into the lead for the first time in the final round.
After an opening round 73, the Austria native posted back-to-back rounds of 69 to finish the tournament with a score of five-under par.
Fellow freshman Carter Graf finished in a tie for 23rd place with a score of one-over par. Graf had a final 54-hole scorecard of 73-71-73—217.
Junior Easton Paxton rounded out the Pack lineup. The Riverton, Wyo., native finished the tournament with a score of 12-over par.
Playing as individuals, Brett McLamb and Spencer Oxendine both spent the weekend near the top of the leaderboard. McLamb finished with his second consecutive top-10 performance with the Pack, finishing with a score of five-under par to finish in a tie for 10th place, while Oxendine finished one shot back of McLamb in a tie for 12th place.
Thomas Deal finished in a tie for 59th place at nine-over par for the tournament while Andrew Wilmoth finished in a tie for 70th at 11-over par.
