Tab Ramos Hired as Head Coach of Houston Dynamo

HOUSTON – Former NC State All-American men's soccer player Tab Ramos has been named the head coach of the Houston Dynamo, as announced by the club on Oct. 25.
Ramos joins the Dynamo after nine years as the head coach of the U-20 U.S. National Team. The team played in four World Cups under his leadership, advancing to the quarterfinals in three of those years. In addition to his coaching role, Ramos had held the position of U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director since 2013.
As a professional competitor, Ramos competed in three World Cups for the U.S. and was the first-ever player to be signed by Major League Soccer to a contract in 1995. He retired from professional soccer in 2002 after spending six years playing in the U.S. In 2005, Ramos was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Tab Ramos was an All-American at NC State in 1985, 1986, and 1987. He earned All-ACC First Team mentions in each of those years after earning a Second Team honor as a freshman in 1984. The Wolfpack made four NCAA Tournament appearances during his career, with Ramos scoring 31 goals and contributing 42 assists throughout his career.
A three-time member of the U.S. World Cup Team in 1990, 1994, and 1998, Ramos appeared in 81 games for the United States. Ramos has served as the head coach of the U.S. U-20 MNT since 2011. During this time, he's led the team to four World Cup berths (2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019) highlighted by quarterfinal appearances in 2015, 2017 and 2019. At the 2019 tournament in Poland, the U.S. played in Group D, completing group play with wins over Nigeria and Qatar to advance to the knockout phase and semi-finals. The U.S. defeated France in the first round of the knockout stage by a score of 3-2 to move on to the quarterfinals, but was eliminated from play in the quarterfinals after a 2-1 loss to Ecuador.
